Bruins fans can step away from the cliff and take the Don Sweeney picture off your dart boards.  The Bruins signed tough guy and goal scorer Matt Beleskey to a 5 year $19 million dollar deal.  Beleskey will carry an annual cap hit of $3.8 million.

This is a player I thought the Bruins should target when I saw him play in the playoffs for the Ducks.  He would be the leader in the hit department and he scored 8 goals in 16 playoff games.  He plays a Bruins style of hockey.

The knock on Beleskey is he has only one 20 goal season and it came in a contract year.  But as we all know, by listening to Peter Chiarelli talk about players for the last 8 years, a player who scores 20 goals once is a 20 goal scorer, like Chris Kelly.

I think Beleskey will be different.  I do not expect him to score 30 goals, but he should be in the 20 to 25 range every year.  He will most likely play with David Krejci and he will get power play time.

Not only will Beleskey bring goal scoring to the Bruins he will also bring toughness.  According to hockeyfights.com he has had 25 NHL fights in his 6 seasons.  He only had 1 fight this year, but he was playing in a different role than in years past.

I am sure Beleskey is happy he no longer plays for Bruce Boudreau.
