Johnny Oduya has just gotten one step closer to signing on with a new NHL team. Per a CBS Chicago report the 33-year-old free agent and two time Stanley Cup winner with the Chicago Blackhawks (2013, 2015) will not be returning to the team and should be close to signing a deal with a new organization (cough, Buffalo, cough…) later today.
It was all but official Oduya would be gone once the Blackhawks traded Patrick Sharp to the Dallas Stars and in return received offensive defenseman Trevor Daley, who is on the books for two more years at $3.3 million per season.
We’ll have the update here when Oduya and his agent announce his new home later. Maybe, just maybe, the Bruins steal him out from under the front runners but that’s highly unlikely.
