Tonight’s preseason game had the Bruins top 6 forwards all sitting out, pitting the young guns up against most of the Rangers regular squad. Bruins looked really sharp early, dominating the first period. As time wore on the cream rose to the top and the Rangers scored three unanswered goals to get ahead 3-1. A late Bruins tally wasn’t enough as the fell 3-2.
Here are the 3 Stars:
3rd Star – Colin Miller
Colin Miller continues to impress. He logged 20+ minutes again, jumped into the offensive play to create opportunities, and was a +1. He also got another three shots on net, one which was a bomb that Lundqvist had trouble handling despite a clear view of the puck. Miller started the “practice” 3-on-3 overtime with Spooner and Connolly as well. Tonight’s play should solidify that he is making the opening night roster.
2nd Star – Spooner-Connolly-Hayes Line
Best line on the ice all night. They combined for 5 points and 10 shots on goal. The line was truly dominant most of the game. They were on the ice for two of the Rangers goals but they didn’t directly fall on their performance, with the flukey screen goal and JT Miller’s individual moves to dance around McQuaid. If this is the true third line for the Bruins this season then they are going to have some great matchups this year. Look for Connolly to continue to bury if he’s getting these “Spoon” fed opportunities, get it? Spoon fed.
1st Star – Henrik Lundqvist
Hank. Hank was fantastic. He looked great under a lot of pressure. But what’s new, right? He stopped 39 of 41 shots, many of them difficult. He only looked human on one shot, by Zac Rinaldo, when Rinaldo came down the short side and ripped one high off the post, possibly catching him off angle a touch. But that’s it. More of the same from Lundqvist, one of the best in the world.
