(Source: Boston.com) – “Boston Bruins star center Patrice Bergeron and his wife, Stephanie, welcomed a new baby boy, Zack, Wednesday morning, according to the team. Skating on less than an hour of sleep Wednesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers, Bergeron tallied a goal and an assist in just the first period.”
What a story. Patrice Bergeron welcomes his newborn son, Zack, into the world Wednesday morning then goes out later that day and scores a beautiful power play goal. To top it off he received the puck from the net afterwards as the perfect welcoming/birthday memento to give to his son. You can’t make this stuff up.
It’s unfortunate that the Bruins took their foot off the gas in the 3rd period and let the Flyers back in the game because it really would have been the perfect ending to a whirlwind day for Patrice Bergeron had the Bruins closed it out. He finished the night with an assist as well and played over 20 minutes after getting only an hour of sleep in the previous 24 hours.
It won’t make Bergeron feel any better about a bad loss but his goal certainly makes the overall day that much more special. Zack Bergeron will always have a great story to tell, and the game puck to show for it, about his dad scoring an NHL goal on the day he was born.
