Tonight the Bruins face off at home against the red hot, 9-3, Dallas Stars. Jamie Benn leads the NHL with 10 goals and Tyler Seguin leads the NHL with 12 assists. Shutting them down will be no easy task. But this game couldn’t have come at a better time for Tuukka Rask.
As we know Tuukka struggled to start the season. His first five games weren’t up to his, or our, standard. Since then he’s posted a shutout against Arizona, and only gave up one goal against Florida in a 3-1 victory. That one goal was a power play rebound, where had Adam McQuaid’s stick not broke blocking a shot that created the rebound, he could have easily cleared the puck for Rask. In other words, things have been going well for Tuukka. And let’s not discount the Bruins defensive play. We’re seeing far less mental mistakes and lost puck battles in their own end. They’re not just handing out cupcakes and gifts everywhere for the other team to enjoy. The young defense has simplified things, made smarter plays, and cleaned up a lot of things in front of Rask.
Tonight 2 points is not only important like every game but more so specifically because the Bruins are off on a road trip again after tonight. This one game pit stop at home, with a rested Rask in net, is an important tone setting game before getting on the road. Grab the 2 points and travel with the positive momentum still rolling forward.
This is going to be an entertaining game tonight. The Bruins have the NHL’s #1 offense, Dallas is fast and right up in the top tier of offensive teams as well. And we can’t discount the energy in that buzzes in the Garden when Tyler Seguin returns to Boston. But tonight, Tuukka Rask looks to continue the streak he’s on, stopping the last 55 of 56 shots he’s faced, and create a buzz of his own.
