That is what you call a rebound game.  The effort was much better tonight and the Bruins took it to the Winnipeg Jets winning 6-2.  No surprise that Brad Marchand scored a goal tonight, which is becoming status quo.  The Bruins also got goals from Patrice Bergeron (2), Loui Eriksson, David Pastrnak and Jimmy Hayes (EN).  This was a much needed win and the Bruins responded well after getting beaten down by the Kings like Apollo Creed against Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.

Here are BostonPucks.com’s 3 Thoughts:

1) What Was Patrice Bergeron Thinking

I am sure I am not the only one that almost went into cardiac arrest when Patrice Bergeron fought Blake Wheeler.  If Bergeron would have gotten hurt fighting it would be catastrophic to this Bruins team.  But, it showed balls and showed that Patrice is not going to put up with the crap that went on in the Kings game.  Bergeron made a statement to his teammates but I would prefer that he leave the fighting to Rinaldo, Randell and Beleskey.  Bergeron should not be fighting.  Yet it was something that needed to be done by the leader of this team.  You do not see Zdeno Chara doing that anymore so someone else has to step up.

2) Is Brett Connolly Turning The Corner?

Brett Connolly had 3 assists tonight.  Here at BostonPucks.com we have been a supporter of Connolly all season.  There’s been no quit in that despite some rough patches along the way.

Back on January 13th we blogged about how fans should give Connolly a chance.  Look, yeah I wish he would produce more goals, but he has not been playing poorly.  He has had plenty of chances to score where he puts it directly into the goalies’ chest, but other than not being able to score to me he looks to have good skill.  I know we have said this before, but hopefully a game like tonight gets him going.  Everyone knows that Marchand has been playing out of his mind and Bergeron is his typical self, but Brett Connolly is also on that line.  If he gets going and starts scoring that line could end up being scary good.

3) Rask Bounces Back

In the second half of the first period and the first half of the second period it looked like the Jets might run away with this game.  They were trailing the game but they were clearly the dominant team.  The Jets had 30 shots on goal half way through the 2nd period.  Tuukka did not have to make any spectacular saves but he made the ones he needed to and kept the Bruins in the game.  Tuukka was determined to have a good game.

He came out to the pre-game skate early and was focusing on having a bounce back game, which he did.  The Bruins are going to need to get good to great goal tending over this 6 game road trip.  This trip could make or break the season.  A good next 5 games on the road could set them up nicely to make the playoffs.

****Extras****

  • There were 3 fights in the game tonight.  It seemed like the Bruins were not going to take any crap and they were engaged during the game.  It was good to see.
  • Jimmy Hayes picked up a goal and an assist tonight.  The Bruins need their secondary players to start chipping in.  They cannot rely on Marchand and Bergeron every night.  And they need to start chipping in beyond the empty netters.
  • With tonight’s win the Bruins stay in a tie for 2nd in the Atlantic Division and are also in a 3-way log jam for 4th in the Eastern Conference.
