Well there ya have it. Us Bruins fans can hate his whine and dives but he sure is good at hockey.
Tonight, at 29-years-old, Crosby became the 12th fastest player to reach 1,000 points. And remarkably this year he’s making it look as effortless as ever with his 30 goals (1st in the NHL) and 61 points (2nd in the NHL). Last year didn’t start out the best for #87 as some began to wonder if maybe he was on the downside of his career. A coaching change and a Stanley Cup run just months later certainly erased any doubt as to who was the best player in the world.
If rule changes and shrinking goalie equipment doesn’t dramatically improve scoring over the next few years Crosby would need roughly 11 more seasons averaging 75 points a year to move into that legendary 1,800 career points club. It’s entirely possible he makes it to 40 in the NHL but guys just aren’t putting up the 100+ point seasons like they used to.
Regardless, “Sid the Kid” is going to go down as an all-time NHL great. And I’ll try my best to be a little less annoyed by him for the remainder of his career. No promises though.
