Zach Senyshyn is one of the Bruins most highly anticipated prospects. The kid has rockets on his feet when he skates and he has a terrific release. With all that being said, there is a very good chance that he will need some seasoning in the AHL once he turns pro.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, his Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds are in second place in the OHL’s Western Conference and have clinched a playoff spot. The unfortunate part of that scenario is they are likely going on a long playoff run, meaning Senyshyn would not be able to get into some AHL games at the end of the season.
The Soo Greyhounds just came off 2 games this past week. On Friday night they beat the Guelph Storm 6-0. Senyshyn scored twice to get him up to 39 goals on the season. Senyshyn’s first goal was on a 2-on-0 but his second was a thing of beauty. He collected a nice pass in the slot and buried a wrister bar down:
On Sunday the Greyhounds played the Kitchener Rangers in a nail biter. The Soo defeated the Rangers 2-1. And of course Senyshyn scored both goals. Both goals, surprise surprise, were from his quick release wrist shots. The First one was coming down the right wing side that ripped past the Ranger’s goalie. On the game winner he scored on a long shot from just inside the blue line that the Ranger’s goal got a piece of it with his glove:
Brad Coccimiglio, SooToday.com– “For Senyshyn, the goals give him 41 on the season as he becomes the first Greyhound since Richard Uniacke to score 40 in back-to-back seasons. Uniacke did so in 1995-96 and 1996-97.”
Regardless of when Zach Senyshyn makes it to the NHL, he could be an exciting player that will be able to create with his speed, size, and skill. I know I cannot wait to see him wearing the Spoked-B on his chest in an NHL game.
- With the NCAA conference playoffs kicking off this past weekend many of the Bruins top prospects had the weekend off due to their teams having first round bye (i.e.: Harvard, Boston University, and Notre Dame).
- Jesse Gabrielle had a nice week by scoring a goal and 2 assists in three games. But what stood out the most was the lumberjack themed jerseys the Prince George Cougars wore and are now auctioning off. See in the image below:
