THEY DID IT! THE B’S WON THE OTHER NIGHT!
Okay, got that out of my system.
Seriously, what a friggin game Thursday. There was some McAvoy sweetness with the shelf snipe that looked like he invented the move, tough physical play on both sides of the puck, and a real solid performance in net by Dobby. Everyone showed up. And I had a great time watching it.
Now since the B’s are closing up the west coast trip tonight I figured I’d pay homage to a west coast brewery I’ve long admired and try to get my hands on whenever I get the chance. The Russian River Brewing Company.
About three and half years ago a few of my friends and I planned a beer trip around their once a year IPA release, Pliny the Younger. It was the week of Valentine’s Day and I’m still thankful my wife let me go. She’s cool like that. I believe I sampled 25+ beers that day (we had 3x as much water, that’s how you make a full day of it for all you rookies). It was amazing.
A word of advice, if you order a flight, don’t be surprised when they say ‘Okay’ and walk away without asking which ones you want. Here’s why:
Poor us, right?
So, what’s my pick for tonight’s #BeerForTheGame? None other than Pliny the Elder. Old school.
This guy is the west coast king and is still highly regarded as one of the top beers in the world (currently #15 on BeerAdvocate.com with a rating of 4.65/5).
It weighs in at 8% ABV and has an awesome bitterness that’s not over the top. It’s piney as fuck and waaaaaay too easy to drink with smooth mouth feel and no hot throat hit (that’s what she said.) With all the IPA’s that are straight juice coming out these days, this is a pleasant reminder of where they all came from. And it’s still as good as the day I first had it. Unfortunately I only have one left after this one and I’m for sure drinking it tonight while I watch the B’s destroy the Sharks to seal the road trip. Get it done, boys.
