Well, it’s time. Women’s hockey gold medal time. Team USA vs. Canada.
It’s been 20 years since the USA women have struck gold in the Olympics, while Canada has won four straight. There’s really nothing better than this game.
The contributors here at Boston Pucks are lucky enough to have one degree of separation from tonights game. One of our homegrown locals is skating for the stars and stripes, #37 Amanda Pelkey, so we’re a little extra pumped up for this one, as is our entire community. And we all remember that stunner 4 years ago when Canada’s Poulin scored with just 55 ticks left in the 3rd period to tie it, and then went on to put home a power play goal in OT to give Canada the crown.
The ladies on Team USA haven’t forgot that game either. The Sochi Games is their motivator. And they have plenty of fire in them so this is going to be a great game to watch.
That said, I’m going to need a beer with a little strength to it to take the edge off tonight. I also want to have a beer that will represent our ladies well. So I’m going with an Aunt Virginia, a New England Style Double IPA from @30MileBrewingCo.
As you know, I’m a part owner of 30 Mile, but I feel it’s also important to note when I do use my own beers in this blog. What you may not know, is that this is my recipe, and Aunt Virginia is my favorite Aunt. She’s one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met, but she does have a mean streak and I think this well represents the girls going into battle tonight.
This NEDIPA is thoroughly hopped with Mosaic, Cascade, Centennial, and Simcoe. It’s got a rich, juicy mouthfeel and a ton of citrus and melon on the backend with a bit of sweetness. This beer is crushable, and dangerous since it weighs in at 8.5%. So I’ll stick to one for the game and finish up with some water after that since the game starts at 11:15 tonight…
So buckle up and drink up. GO USA!!!
